Statistics are thrown around in our industry all the time. I can’t say for sure how accurate they are, but I have read that close to 50% of the companies in the lawn and landscape industry generate less than $250,000 a year in revenue.
I have also read that close to 90% of the companies in our industry generate less than $350,000 per year.
Why? Not today my friend… That is a much longer post for a different day.
But, I wanted to show that most companies in our industry are not very big.
That means owners are usually in close proximity to their employees – out in the field, working side by side, communicating consistently, etc.
It’s only natural that as an owner you would get to know your employees when working like this.
But that is where it should end.
The less they know about your personal life the better – and vice versa.
You don’t need to buy them breakfast and lunch and its not Ok when they are 5 to 10 minutes late everyday.
Draw a line in the sand unless you want to be taken advantage of. If they see you as their friend and not their boss, they will absolutely take advantage of you – maybe not right away, but in time, little by little, they will.
